In this page we will provide some general links of interest as a first starting point in exploring EveryDesk, and a set of tutorial videos on common aspects of system use and maintenance.
First of all: the EveryDesk system includes the excellent Oracle OpenOffice productivity suite, that includes a word processing module, a spreadsheets, a presentations and a drawing program. A very good introduction on the use of OpenOffice is the OOoAuthor’s Guides for OpenOffice, that provides full coverage of all the functionalities of the suite.
The default internet browser is Firefox, both for its stability and its excellent compatibility with a wide range of complex websites. A good overall guide to Firefox can be found at FLOSSmanuals.A second browser, called Google Chromium is also installed; it is extremely fast and compact, and is thus an appropriate choice for very limited or old hardware. An introduction to Chromium can be found here.
The graphic and image manipulation tool included in EveryDesk is called GIMP, and is a complete and powerful image and paint program for processing and manipulating photos, images, graphic art. A document explaining some of its features is available here.
An overall introduction to Open Source software and its multiple aspect can be found in our EU guide on open source software, where you will also find a catalogue of useful applications for small and medium enterprises as well as public administrations.
